Lise Thibault was sworn in as the lieutenant-governor of Québec. She was the first woman to hold that office in the province. The lieutenant-governor serves as the King’s (then Queen’s) representative in Québec and plays key constitutional roles. This included granting royal assent to provincial laws. Her appointment was widely seen as a milestone for women’s representation in senior public roles. She served in the position for several years.
