Operation Blockbuster, a major phase of the Canadian-led Rhineland fighting, concluded on this date. The operation ran from late February into early March 1945. This involved extremely difficult combat in forested terrain and harsh conditions. It formed part of the broader Rhineland Offensive. This is one of the last major campaigns in Northwest Europe in the Second World War. Canadian forces played a central role in pushing German defenders back toward the Rhine.
