The Canadian Armed Forces launched Operation RECUPERATION in response to the 1998 ice storm. Troops began deploying to support affected areas after provincial requests for help the day before. Soldiers helped clear debris, support evacuations, assist with shelters, and aid utility crews working to restore power. It became one of the largest domestic military deployments in Canadian history.
