Canada’s Cabinet approved Order-in-Council P.C. 1486 during the Second World War. The order enabled the removal of people of Japanese ancestry from a protected coastal zone in British Columbia. It became a key legal step in the uprooting and internment of Japanese Canadians. Thousands of Japanese Canadians were forced from their homes and faced dispossession and restrictions.
