Description

Canada’s Parliament proclaimed a “Day of General Thanksgiving” to be observed on the second Monday in October. This proclamation helped standardize the modern date for Thanksgiving in Canada. Earlier Thanksgivings had been held on different dates at different times in Canadian history. The decision also separated Canadian Thanksgiving more clearly from the U.S. holiday in November. The proclamation remains the basis for the annual October observance today.
