On April 13, 1970, an oxygen tank exploded aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft on its way to the Moon. The blast damaged the service module and crippled the mission. Astronaut Jack Swigert famously reported, “Houston, we’ve had a problem.” The crew and mission controllers worked together to improvise life-support solutions and navigation plans. Instead of landing, the spacecraft looped around the Moon and headed back to Earth. The safe return of the crew became a textbook example of problem solving and teamwork under pressure.
