On July 15, 1975, the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project launched from the United States. The mission was the first joint spaceflight between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It was designed to ease Cold War tensions and promote scientific cooperation. Astronauts and cosmonauts later docked in orbit. The mission demonstrated compatibility of spacecraft systems.
