On September 10, 1721, Peyton Randolph was born in Virginia. He later became a leading colonial politician and served as the first president of the First Continental Congress in 1774. Randolph’s leadership helped guide the colonies’ initial unified response to British policies. Although he died in 1775, before independence was declared, his role in organizing early opposition was significant. His career illustrates the importance of colonial legislative experience in shaping Revolutionary leadership.
