In March 1966, including around March 19, the United States intensified its bombing of North Vietnam as part of ongoing operations such as Rolling Thunder. The air campaign aimed to weaken North Vietnam’s ability to support the war in the South. It targeted infrastructure, supply routes, and military sites. Civilian casualties and destruction grew, fueling criticism of the war. The bombing did not produce a quick victory and sometimes strengthened North Vietnamese resolve. The escalation contributed to rising anti-war sentiment in the United States.
