On March 6, 1836, Mexican forces under General Antonio López de Santa Anna overran the Alamo mission in San Antonio, Texas. Texian defenders had held out for 13 days against a much larger army. Nearly all of the defenders, including figures like James Bowie and Davy Crockett, were killed. Although it was a military defeat for the Texians, the event became a powerful symbol of resistance. “Remember the Alamo” later served as a rallying cry for Texian forces in the Texas Revolution. The battle remains deeply embedded in Texas and U.S. historical memory.
