On June 6, 1933, the first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey. Its creator, Richard Hollingshead, aimed to combine automobiles and film viewing. Families could watch movies from their cars, creating a new social experience. Drive-ins became very popular during the 1940s and 1950s. They symbolized suburban growth and changes in American leisure time. Although fewer exist today, drive-ins still evoke nostalgia and remain part of American cultural memory.
