Description

On November 3, 1979, members of the Ku Klux Klan and American Nazi Party opened fire on a “Death to the Klan” march organized by the Communist Workers Party in Greensboro, North Carolina. The attack occurred in a predominantly Black neighborhood and was captured on television news cameras. Five marchers were killed and several others were wounded. Subsequent state and federal trials ended in acquittals for the defendants, sparking outrage among civil rights advocates. A later civil suit found some shooters and local authorities liable for wrongful death. The event highlighted ongoing racial tensions and raised questions about law-enforcement handling of extremist violence.
