On September 30, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated Hoover Dam at the border of Nevada and Arizona. The massive concrete structure had taken years to build and employed thousands of workers during the Great Depression. The dam provided flood control, irrigation water, and hydroelectric power to the growing Southwest. Its dedication symbolized federal commitment to large infrastructure projects as tools for economic recovery and regional development. Hoover Dam remains an iconic landmark and a key part of the Colorado River system.
