On July 18, 1951, peace negotiations began to end the Korean War. Delegates from both sides met in Kaesong. Talks were slow and often stalled over issues like prisoner exchange and territorial boundaries. Despite frustration, the talks eventually produced an armistice in 1953. The negotiations highlighted Cold War tensions. The armistice remains in effect today, as no formal treaty has been signed.
