Description

In late October 1983, Microsoft publicly announced its Windows project, which would later lead to Windows 1.0, released in 1985. The software built on the success of MS-DOS by adding a graphical interface with windows and menus. The announcement signaled Microsoft’s intention to compete in the emerging graphical desktop market. Although the first version of Windows was limited, it set the stage for later releases that would dominate personal computing. Businesses and consumers slowly began to adopt graphical interfaces as hardware improved. This transition changed how people interacted with computers at work and at home.
