Description

On June 13, 1966, the Supreme Court ruled that suspects must be informed of their rights before police questioning. The decision created what became known as “Miranda rights.” These include the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. The ruling aimed to prevent coerced confessions and protect due process. Police agencies nationwide had to change interrogation procedures. The Miranda decision remains a central part of American criminal justice.
