Description

On March 20, 2003, U.S. and coalition forces launched a massive bombing campaign on Baghdad and other Iraqi targets. This phase was widely known as “shock and awe.” The strategy aimed to rapidly cripple Iraqi command and control systems and create psychological impact. The intense strikes lit up the sky over Baghdad and were broadcast worldwide. Within days, coalition ground forces advanced quickly. The early military success, however, was followed by years of occupation and conflict.
