Description

On February 19, 1943, the Tule Lake Segregation Center in California was established as part of the Japanese American internment system. It held those deemed “disloyal” for protesting camp conditions or refusing to sign loyalty oaths. The camp became the largest and most controversial of the ten internment facilities. Its legacy illustrates the human cost of wartime civil liberty restrictions and remains a central subject in Japanese American history.
