Description
Argentina is the second-largest country in South America and the eighth-largest in the world. Its capital and largest city is Buenos Aires, located on the western shore of the Río de la Plata estuary. Argentina's geography is highly diverse, ranging from the subtropical north to the subantarctic south. It is bounded by the Andes Mountains to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Major geographical regions include the fertile Pampas (grasslands) in the center, the arid Patagonia plateau in the south, and the high-altitude Gran Chaco in the north. Aconcagua, located in the Andes, is the highest mountain outside of Asia. Argentina also shares the spectacular Iguazu Falls with Brazil. The country claims a portion of Antarctica and the British-administered Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas). Argentina is a major global producer of beef, soy, and wine. The culture is heavily influenced by European immigration, particularly from Italy and Spain.
