Description
Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi was a polymath in the House of Wisdom in Baghdad whose genius gave the world the tools of modern mathematics. His book 'al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wal-Muqabala' introduced the systematic method for solving linear and quadratic equations. The word 'algebra' is derived from 'al-jabr,' a term in his title. He was also instrumental in introducing the Hindu-Arabic numeral system (0-9) to the West. The term 'algorithm' is actually a Latinized version of his name. Al-Khwarizmi’s work in geography and astronomy was equally influential, but his mathematical legacy is the foundation of every scientific and engineering calculation performed today.
