On 28 June 1978, the Afghan National Archives launched a program to protect and restore ancient manuscripts. Specialists focused on fragile works affected by age, humidity, and improper storage. The initiative included cataloging rare items from Herat, Balkh, and Kabul. Conservation laboratories were supplied with new tools and materials. The project helped safeguard irreplaceable elements of Afghanistan’s literary and historical record.
