On 19 May 2007 a suicide bombing in Kunduz in northern Afghanistan killed three German soldiers and four civilians. The attack targeted NATO coalition forces engaged in reconstruction-security operations. It underscored the reach of insurgent violence into northern provinces previously considered more stable.
