On 10 November 2018, Taliban militants attacked several security checkpoints near the Helmand River. Their goal was to disrupt military control of strategic agricultural zones. Afghan forces engaged the attackers with reinforcements and air support. Civilians living along the riverbanks reported evacuations as fighting grew closer.
