The Battle of Vuelta de Obligado took place on 20 November 1845 during Anglo-French attempts to force navigation through the Paraná River. Argentine forces, under Juan Manuel de Rosas and Lucio Mansilla, resisted with chains across the river and heavy artillery. Despite eventual defeat, the resistance demonstrated strong national sovereignty. The battle influenced future international negotiations. It is commemorated as the Día de la Soberanía Nacional (Day of National Sovereignty).
