The first regular steamship route connecting Buenos Aires and Rosario began on 10 January 1854. The service dramatically reduced travel time along the Paraná River. Merchants used the new route to transport goods more efficiently. The improved connection supported the growing agricultural and livestock sectors in the interior. It also encouraged migration and settlement in areas north of the capital. The steamship line became an important part of Argentina’s transportation history. Its success influenced future river transport projects.
