During the period of the Dutch–Portuguese conflicts for control of Northeast Brazil, the Batalha do Monte das Tabocas took place in present-day Pernambuco. This battle was part of the broader Insurreição Pernambucana, a major uprising in which local luso-Brazilian militia forces resisted the occupying Dutch West India Company’s troops. The Portuguese militia, composed largely of settlers and native allies, managed to surprise and defeat the Dutch forces on the slopes of the Monte das Tabocas hill. This action helped halt Dutch expansion and marked a pivotal moment in weakening Dutch authority in the region.
