Alberto Santos-Dumont was born on July 20, 1873, in Palmira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He became one of the pioneers of aviation and is regarded as a national hero in Brazil. Santos-Dumont is best known for flying the 14-bis aircraft in 1906, achieving one of the first public powered airplane flights in Europe. His work contributed significantly to early aeronautical engineering. Unlike many contemporaries, he freely shared his designs to advance aviation. In Brazil, he is celebrated as the “Father of Aviation.”
