Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was born on October 27, 1945, in the state of Pernambuco. He rose to prominence as a union leader in the industrial outskirts of São Paulo. In 1980, he co-founded the Workers' Party (PT). He was first elected President of Brazil in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. After serving two terms, he returned to power by winning the 2022 presidential election.
