Brazil enacted Law No. 14,759, which declared 20 November a national holiday for the National Day of Zumbi and Black Consciousness. The law made the holiday federal, so it applies nationwide. It officially recognizes the importance of the date in Brazil’s history and culture. The change affected calendars for public services, schools, and many workplaces. It also reinforced national recognition of Zumbi and the struggle of Black Brazilians.
