The storm resulted in seven confirmed deaths and dozens of injuries as it swept through the municipality. The intensity was sufficient to completely demolish numerous masonry (brick) houses, not just wooden structures. This high level of damage has led modern researchers to estimate it may have reached F4 intensity on the Fujita scale. The tornado destroyed the local railway station, flattened crops (primarily coffee and subsistence farming), and killed a significant number of livestock.
