During the Confederation of the Equator revolt in Brazil’s Northeast, Emperor Pedro I ordered a major loyalist response. A naval division under Admiral Thomas Cochrane was dispatched, accompanied by around 1,200 soldiers under Brigadier General Francisco de Lima e Silva. The operation aimed to crush the secessionist movement centered in Pernambuco and prevent the rebellion from spreading further across the region. This deployment marked a decisive escalation by the imperial government from political maneuvering and blockades to a coordinated combined land-and-sea campaign.
