Brazil established Brazilian Pig Farmers’ Day (Dia do Suinocultor) to recognize workers in the swine-farming sector. The date was chosen to honor the contribution of pig farmers to national food production. Swine farming played an important role in rural livelihoods and regional economies, especially in southern Brazil. The observance highlighted issues of labor, agricultural modernization, and food security. Over time, the sector became increasingly industrialized and export-oriented.
