Brazil enacted Law No. 12,319, which regulated the profession of Translator and Interpreter of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The law formally defined the professional activity and helped standardize qualifications and recognition for Libras translation and interpretation. This was an important step for accessibility in education, public services, and civic participation for Deaf Brazilians who use Libras.
