Brazil opened the National Exhibition of 1908 in the Urca area of Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition celebrated the centenary of the opening of Brazil’s ports (1808) and aimed to present an image of a modernizing Brazil. It featured large pavilions and displays highlighting Brazilian production, technology, and development goals. The event ran for several months and drew very large public attendance, becoming a major public showcase of the early 20th-century republic.
