This decree officially separated Maceió from the neighboring town of Alagoas (now Marechal Deodoro). This granted it its own administrative organization, including elected councilors and judges. It was established in the area of Ponta Verde, near the mouth of the Mundaú River on the northeast coast of Brazil.
