The Boer force at Paardeberg surrendered after days of siege and heavy fighting. Canadian troops played a major role in the final phase leading to the surrender. The battle became one of Canada’s most noted military actions of the South African War. It was also widely commemorated for years as “Paardeberg Day” in parts of Canada.
