Lincoln MacCauley Alexander was born in Toronto on this day. He became a major figure in Canadian public life and broke important barriers for Black Canadians in politics. He was elected to Parliament in 1968 and later served in federal Cabinet. He also became Ontario’s lieutenant governor, a high constitutional role in the province.
