Québec introduced the Fleurdelisé as its new national flag. Premier Maurice Duplessis announced the change by order-in-council, and the flag was raised over the Parliament Building in Québec City. The design replaced older symbols and quickly became a major sign of Québec identity. The Fleurdelisé later gained a formal legal framework when Québec passed legislation governing its use.
