On this date, J.A.D. McCurdy flew the Silver Dart over Baddeck Bay, Nova Scotia. This is recognized as the first powered, controlled airplane flight in Canada. The flight was a major step for aviation in the country. The Silver Dart later flew many more times before being damaged beyond repair during military trials.
