The Frog Lake Massacre occurred in what is now Alberta during the North-West Resistance. A group associated with Cree leader Big Bear’s band killed nine settlers at Frog Lake. The event heightened fear across the region and intensified the Canadian government’s military response. It also deepened tensions between Indigenous communities and the Canadian state during a period of rapid change on the Prairies.
