Description

The Manitoba Act received Royal Assent on this day. This paved the way for Manitoba to officially become Canada's fifth province on July 15, 1870. The act was a result of the Red River Resistance led by Métis leader Louis Riel. This establishes rights for the Métis and the use of both French and English in the new province.
