Description

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in an open motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. He was struck by rifle shots and rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Texas Governor John Connally, riding in the same car, was seriously wounded but survived. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and charged with the crime, though he was killed two days later by Jack Ruby before standing trial. The Warren Commission later concluded Oswald acted alone, but controversy and alternative theories have persisted. The assassination stunned the nation and the world and marked a turning point in American political culture.
