On July 24, 1847, Brigham Young and a group of Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. They sought refuge from persecution in the eastern United States. The pioneers established settlements that became the foundation of modern Utah. Their arrival marked the beginning of large-scale westward migration by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The date is celebrated in Utah as Pioneer Day. Their journey remains a symbol of perseverance and faith in American history.
