Description

On April 20, 1914, violence erupted at a tent colony of striking coal miners near Ludlow, Colorado. Colorado National Guard troops and company guards attacked the camp, which housed miners and their families. Tents were burned and gunfire exchanged, resulting in multiple deaths, including women and children. The Ludlow Massacre became a symbol of brutal labor conflict in the early 20th century. Public outrage fueled calls for labor reform and better working conditions. The event remains an important chapter in the history of U.S. labor movements.
