On April 19, 1995, a truck bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The blast killed 168 people and injured hundreds more, including children in a day care center. The attack was carried out by domestic extremists Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. It became one of the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism in U.S. history. The bombing led to changes in security at federal buildings and new laws targeting terrorism. It also brought renewed attention to extremist movements within the United States.
