On 19 June 1999, Taliban forces advanced into Bamyan Province and took control of Yakawlang District. The capture affected Hazara communities that had long opposed Taliban rule. Reports indicated forced displacement following the takeover. Resistance groups attempted counterattacks but were unable to regain the area. The event heightened ethnic tensions and contributed to regional instability.
