Argentina established its National Meteorological Office on 11 January 1872. The institution was formed to gather weather data and support navigation, agriculture, and public safety. Observatories were created across the country to record temperature, rainfall, and atmospheric conditions. The office played an important role in developing early forecasting methods. Its work helped farmers plan harvests and assisted the growing railroad system. Over time, the agency expanded into climate research and international cooperation. It remains a central part of Argentina’s scientific infrastructure.
