Decree No. 2,429 promulgated the Inter-American Convention on Conflict of Laws in Matters of Adoption of Minors (concluded in La Paz in 1984). The decree made the convention executable within Brazil’s legal order under the decree’s terms. It helped provide international legal coordination rules for cross-border adoption situations covered by the convention. This mattered for cases involving international elements, where conflict-of-laws rules can decide which legal system applies.
