The Battle of Acosta Ñu took place near Barrero Grande (present-day Eusebio Ayala, Paraguay) during the final phase of the Paraguayan War. Allied forces, including a large Brazilian Army contingent, confronted Paraguayan troops composed largely of children, teenagers, elderly men, and civilians. The battle resulted in a devastating defeat for Paraguay, with extremely high civilian and youth casualties. After the fighting, parts of the battlefield were set on fire, causing further loss of life.
