Description

The Brazilian passenger ship Araraquara was sunk by the German submarine U-507 off Brazil’s northeast coast, near the mouth of the Real River. The attack happened at about 02:03, and the ship sank within minutes. Most people on board did not have time to escape, leading to a very heavy loss of life. Only a small number of survivors reached the coast after clinging to debris and the limited lifeboats that could be launched.
